Depth….. a Factor Again. Lady Fliers Fight Hard but Drop 1-0 Soccer Match to Port Clinton!
It takes a ton of sweat, will, and team effort to compete in grueling sports like soccer. Constant running. Timeouts as rare as a kiss from your favorite movie star. Almost.
Today, our girls suffered a gut wrenching loss to previously winless Port Clinton. Just one goal, but enough to avoid an O-fer for the Red team.
Our girls certainly had several chances, shots on goal, as the sport’s experts say. However, it just wasn’t to be.
Fliers are not excuse makers. Not the ones putting forth the time effort to improve and win a few. However, in this author’s humble opinion, the cards were stacked again against the CHS teams. Lack of players, bodies, depth helped wear down the Fliers. When the final eight minutes came, the girls, frustrated by yet another ZERO ON THE SCOREBOARD, HAD TO think of how tired they were becoming.
Naturally, those sitting on their buns in the bleachers, pleaded for more offense, more effort, but the girls unquestionably were giving an admirable effort, an effort which deserved a ‘W’. But Port Clinton also played hard and to win. The fortune came to the Lady Redskins.
Match after match, depth has been a factor in so many problems this season. The girls are indeed playing much better now than just two weeks ago, but the depth factor remains a haunting ghost giving teams with 8-10 on the bench, like Port Clinton and others to gain the intangible to win.
Looking ahead to 2019, we encourage more girls to start playing soccer as an Emerald in Fremont. From there, on the way to CHS with skills needed to play better soccer at the higher level.
