Lady Fliers Notch First Lake Win Tonight 196-201 over Perkins. Brooke Newsome breaks Olivia Delgarbino and Sarah Baker’s CHS Record with a sizzling 35.
Conditions may have been ripe for good young lady to shoot the score of her life. Low humidity, mild summer evening weather, occasional light soothing breezes. Brooke Newsome took to her job like any other golf round.
“I like to approach a ‘40’ or so anytime I try a nine hole round. Tonight, I don’t know.. it was unbelievable… I think the key was I was hitting the greens from the fairways,” the three sport athlete commented.
And when a golfer can hit the greens from the fairways, he or she gets an opportunity to shoot low scores. Her round was well underway to her goal of ‘40’ after she birdied the number one hole. Brooke then went bogey, par, bogey. So at 1 over, lightening ‘struck’ the very innocent soul of the personable daughter of Ty and Michelle. Almost like the baseball movie starring Robert Redford in 1984, ‘The Natural’ went on a three consecutive birdie binge through seven holes. She nearly shot even lower but settled for a bogey-par finish of 35. Brooke Newsome thus set the school record, previously set at 37 by CHS alums, Olivia Delgarbino and Sarah Baker.
Afterward, a joyous scene erupted on the fringe of the ninth hole green. Mom, Dad Grandma Sue, Grandpa Harry, and her Coach, Uncle Troy were all there to express their happiness for the day’s great star!
Despite Brooke’s Record, the Lady Pirates were no pushover. Their number ‘one’ had an off night with a 53. Their number ‘two’ beat Grace Pocock 46-57. Number ‘three’ tonight, Margaret Hilliker Shot a 48 as did her Perkins’ counterpart. Kennedi Brown Shot a 56, Zoey Fairbanks a 58, and Felicity Hall wound up with a 72.
Our girls now are 1-1 on the young dual season. They return to Invite play at Brookside Country Club in Ashland on Monday starting there at 10am.
For now, though, a big CHEER for a super young lady and record breaking Golfer, Brooke Newsome of the Lady Fliers!
