Fliers Produce 3 Champions and Finish Impressive Third at Tiffin Invite behind Champion Columbian and Close Runner-up Mansfield Madison
Cgsnewsflier’s sports weekend wrapped up on a good note today. After watching the basketball teams score decisive wins, today our young Flier Wrestlers of Head Coach Cliff Andres performed rather well, despite some disappointments. The Fliers scored 163 points after leading by four going into the finals. Columbian nipped Mansfield Madison 170-169.5. That’s close!
James Batesole, John Loparo, and Kris Mange all got to stand tall on the Awards’ Platform. Hard luck Alec Montgomery finished second against a rugged champion.
The latter Flier has established himself as one gritty Clyde Flier in the years he has competed in football and wrestling. Alec is an exciting ‘watch’. As gritty he is in the field of competition, he is equally sportsmanlike and mannerly off the field and mat.
A good turnout of family supporters were in Tiffin. No doubt that has to help the Flier Wrestlers mojo. Overall, even this baseball buff could sense the excellent effort our boys gave for their coaches.
It’s still going to take time to get back to the days when Clyde Wrestling was a perennial top ten power in its division. From what we have seen, things are moving ahead slowly but steadily thanks to the boys’ continued commitment to one truly grueling sport!
