Flier Boys Use Tie-Breaker Second Straight Night to Again nip Tiffin Columbian. Remain Unbeaten in Lake Division
What’s going on anyway? Is Tiffin Columbian’s golf team a clone of our CHS boys? Diffferent Night. Different golf course and once again the top four scores from both the Tornadoes and Fliers were the same–168. A tie- breaker again had to settle the verdict, and luckily, the Blue and Gold used Mikey Haynes’ fifth best score to decide the match at Seneca Hills near Tiffin.
The Fliers remain unbeaten in head on head play in the league, now unofficially at 10-0. Leading our boys tonight was Ben Hohenstein with a magnificent 38, 13 strokes better than his previous round at our home Green Hills course. Ian Hilliker added a very solid 39, while David Hohenstein shot a 45, Mikey and Logan Nicely each shot a 46, and Grant Reese struggled some with a 48.
Our boys return to Green Hills tomorrow for a 4:15 match versus Lake Division rival Bellevue.
In girls action at Seneca Hills are young team finished behind winner columbian( 188) and Vermilion215). Leading the Lady Fliers was Brylee Oberdorf with a 55, Brooke Newsome a 56, Kaylee Eltringham and Grace Pocock with 59’s and Sam Ackerman with a 60.
Last Saturday, at the Norwalk Invite, the Flier boys of Coach Rob Jennings finished a fine fourth out of 17 teams. Our swingers shot a 339 led by Mikey Haynes’ eighteen hole round of 78 and second overall. Ian Hilliker had an 82, David Hohenstein a 89, Grant Reese had a 90, and Ben Hohenstein ballooned to a 102.
Gallon won the Invite with a 322, Amherst was second with 335, and rugged Lake Division foe, the senior-laden Truckers of Norwalk placed third with 337, just ahead of our boys! Golf fans are getting excited for the oncoming SBC Invite at Fremont Country Club on September 21. It is looking like it will come down to the Truckers and Fliers as the eventual champion.
