Flier Golfers Get Back on the Winning Trail. Pounce on Sandusky 178-256. Five of Six Boys Shoot in the 40’s, best of season as a team.
Coach Rob Jennings is not one to accept average. The one time state qualifier in wrestling and very good golfer himself has been used to winning most of his life. He even chooses winning sports teams like the Yankees as his favorite.
So given an ultra young team this season, the odds of winning frequently let alone a division title were probably 1/200. Despite the hand he has, the personable history teacher has worked hard with each of his players to get them to shoot better. This afternoon, his boys bunched their finest scores of the campaign against the division’s worst squad.
Max Yates, a Junior, is beginning to take to his selection as the team’s number one. He shot 43 at Green Hills. Fellow junior Jacob Lee Shot a 44, unofficially his best nine hole round in 2019. Freshman prospect Mason Gurney submitted a nice 45 on his clubhouse scorecard. And sophomore Gavin Gill fired a 46 while freshman Colby Pocock Shot a 49.
Let’s hope our boys heed the words, tips, and advice of a winner, Rob Jennings. If they do, it’s just a ‘matter of time’.
