Meet Recap

Flier Golf Team Erases Blue Streaks to up record to 7-0 an 5-0 in the Division.
Six scores in the 40’s for nine holes usually will please most high school golf coaches. Yesterday afternoon at Green Hills, Coaches Rob Jennings and Luke Townsley saw all six varsity golfers shoot rather well despite medalist Ian Hilliker’s first round not in the 30’s in his last six times on the golf course.
Ian led the Fliers with a 40. Ben Hohenstein and Grant Reese shot 41 each. New addition to the varsity Mikey Haynes shot an impressive 42 as the team’s ‘number 4’ golfer. David Hohenstein and Jared Combs contributed scores of 45 each to give the Fliers a team total of just 164 strokes over the back nine. On the other hand, Sandusky struggled with a 234. No boy on Sandusky shot less than 50.
All in all, it could be argued that yes, yesterday was a true ‘Flier Day’, best of the year as the Blue and Gold teens remain atop the SBC Lake Division at 5-0!

Game Recap

Goal: Savannah Miller

Assist: Sidney Hohman

The Lady Fliers took on Columbian tonight and took a one nothing lead into half. The ladies played very smart and hard to protect that lead in the first half. Tiffin gained some ground in just under 10 minutes to start half and would eventually put a couple more in to seal the game.
The Lady Fliers battled hard and had many good looks, but just couldn’t manage any more goals. Sam Alexander and Hayley Robinett once again controlled the midfield. Same ended with 4 steals and 6 interceptions. Hayley ended with 3 steals, 7 interceptions, and 5 clears. The defense did a wonderful job keeping the tornadoes at bay in first half and will be ready to keep them out all game the next time we meet. Hannah Elchert held her own and kept out some real dangerous looks. She ended with 3 steals, 2 interceptions and 5 clears. MJ Overmyer had another solid game and saved 7 shots of the 10 she saw on target. These girls played good quality soccer again and are headed in the right direction. This tough loss has only made them hungrier and that’s scary for opponents down the road!

Game Recap

Goals: Seth Hohman-2 Kyle Baker-2 Brock Newsome-2

Assists: Brock Newsome-2 Victor Guzman-1 Shane Hohman-1 Kyle Baker-1

The Fliers once again put out another exciting game at home as the beat the Tornadoes 7-2. The boys kept up their terrific team play and went into half with a 4-1 lead and never looked back. This team is really starting to find their identity and if you have missed a chance to watch them, DO NOT MISS ANOTHER! They are starting to mild into a finely tuned machine. The passes are crisp, shots are precise and support is overwhelming. Great play from Junior Brock Newsome who for the 3rd strait game has scored at least 2 goals AND 2 assists. This kid is making a run at conference player of the year if he keeps it up. This marks the second conference win and first division Win for Fliers.
Defensively the Fliers were solid, both goals were fast breaks and can be avoided in future, but it marks the first 2 goals allowed this season so not bad at all. The fliers once again contained opponents to under 10 shots holding them at 9. The fliers 7th goal was an on goal of a well placed Seth Hohman throw-in. Hohman dominated the midfield with 2, steals, 5 interceptions, and 3 clears to add to his 2 goals. Jacob Kern added some Great midfield play having a steal and 4 interceptions. Kade Newsome held down the left flank chipping in 2 steals, 3 interceptions, and 3 clears. Jared Norman didn’t get another clean sheet tonight but is still coming into his own very nicely. Made some great saves ended up saving 3 of 5 shots on goal.
