Game Recap

The Fliers earned a hard fought draw at Port Clinton today. The first time the Fliers have been truly tested this season seemed to initially stun the Fliers. They were down 0-1 into half thanks to a PK before half. They seemed to be going through the motions in the first half and again to start second half. Port Clinton was awarded another PK and that one was sent sailing over crossbar. This proved to be vital as it seemed to spark some fire in the Fliers. Their chances grew greater by the minute and inched closer and closer to evening the score. Victor Guzman and Brock Newsome have worked some magic late in games before and once again proved to be a duo to watch for in future. Just after Guzman nearly evened the score himself by splitting 3 port clinton defenders and had his shot deflected at last second. Off the ensuing goalkick, with about 90 seconds left, Victor found himself winning the ball and sent it forward in the perfect spot for Brock to turn and take it to to goal who finally had one of his 6 on target shots hit the back of the net and even the score. The fliers continued to threaten up to the very last whistle. In fact the game ended on a controversial offside call in which Newsome seemed poised to take the Fliers home with a late goal winner. Either way the Fliers kept their composure in the end and managed to walk out if Port Clinton with some pride left before they come back home to take on Norwalk Wednesday. Jared Norman saved 6 of 7 shots on target. The fliers kept their steal alive of limiting opponents to 10 shots or less.
