Multiple Teams · Lady Fliers drop opener to Norwalk Lady Truckers

Lady Flier stage fantastic Rally only to lose 68-65 to NOL Preseason 1 Pick Norwalk
In a rather strange but exciting Opener, our Lady Fliers came from 17 down in the second half before losing. It was truly a tale of two halfs. Norwalk showcased their Division 1 recruit prospect, Jiselle Thomas who tallied 16 of her 28 points in the opening two quarters. She is definitely a great player to watch.
“We knew Jiselle was going to get her points but Coach Manley had a couple of others step up to get them far in front!” commented Lady Flier Coach Dave Lozier.
In the first half, the Lady Fliers seemed a step slow in getting to the ball. It is the lesson they need to absorb and use to build upon. Great teams like the Lady Truckers require a sense of urgency right from the get go. If our girls play the tenacious hungry kind of ball like they did in the second half( outscoring NW 42- 28), our girls will definitely give our future opponents fits. It was 53-40 Norwalk after three periods, but shots started falling and hustle began to really step up. Though losing by the narrow margin, it certainly made Flier fans at the game feel better than a cold shooting somewhat inept first two quarters.
Norwalk, too, will gain by the scrap we gave them, so for two teams picked to win their respective conferences, it was a great learning experience! And lost often in the hype about winning is the fact that high school sports is a teaching tool. Tonight both teams taught each other a great deal. Both played their butts off!
At the end the Fliers had four girls reach double figures. In the second half Morgan Bannister began to find the range from deep ville and never-quitting point guard Heidi Marshall began to step up and lead her teammates to the near win. Bri Dowling and Addie Martin also scored in double figures.
A very positive stat lost in the Flier performance was the excellent free throw shooting performance. In the first half, the Lady Fliers only scored 22 points, and 12 or 13 came from a sizzling effort at the stripe. It actually kept our girls somewhat in the game. That foul shooting effort carried on through the second half.
